Women’s Soccer Match on Monday Set to Begin 2021-22 Athletics Year

Wake Forest’s women’s soccer program will host Clemson on Monday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in an exhibition match that is free to all fans.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest will make its preseason debut Monday night, as the Demon Deacons are set to host the No. 7 Clemson Tigers. 
 
Monday's match, which includes free admission to all fans, is slated for 6 p.m. at Spry Stadium. Gates will open one hour prior to kickoff at 5 p.m.
 
WHO'S BACK
The Deacs return 20 letterwinners from last year's squad, highlighted by Ryanne Brown, Giovanna DeMarco, Sofia Rossi and ACC All-Freshman Team member Sophie Faircloth
 
Brown and Faircloth are coming off a season where they led the team in games played, games started, goals, assists and points. They combine for eight goals, four assists, 18 points and over 2,500 minutes. 
 
DeMarco and Rossi bring back experience as they have played in a combined 86 matches.
 
WHO'S NEW
Wake Forest welcomes a signing class of 16 that was rated No. 37 in the country and No. 7 in the ACC by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Deacs added 15 true freshmen and one graduate transfer - Jenna Menta from Georgetown - that look to make an immediate impact this season.
 
FAN INFORMATION
Monday's match is free to all fans as The Best Fan Experience in North Carolina awaits the entire Winston-Salem community on Monday evening. 
 
A number of new fan experience enhancements are planned for the 2021 season. This includes expanded food and beverage options, including availability on Walt Chyzowich Alumni Hill, an enhanced in-game experience, featuring an expanded video board production with additional cameras, replay, and fan-engaging elements, as well as new immersive experiences to promote the unique culture that is known around professional and collegiate soccer.

TICKET INFORMATION
While all exhibition matches are free and seating will be general admission, fans will have the opportunity to select and purchase season tickets on Monday evening for new reserved chair back seating at Spry Stadium.
 
General admission season tickets will also be on sale for Walt Chyzowich Alumni Hill and Spry Stadium.

SCOUTING CLEMSON
The Tigers consist of 16 returners, nine new freshmen and a transfer from Florida. Clemson returns 2020 All-ACC performers Megan Bornkamp, Makenna Morris, Hal Hershfelt and Courtney Jones. 
 
Last season, Clemson reached its first NCAA Quarterfinals match since 2006, but fell to eventual national champions Santa Clara, 1-0. 
 
UP NEXT
The Deacs will host No. 17 South Carolina in the final exhibition on Thursday, Aug. 12 at Spry Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
Wake Forest opens the regular season Thursday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. with a home non-conference matchup against UIC.
